The Naples Council on World Affairs is pleased to present a lecture by Dr. Pauline H. Baker, on Tuesday, January 18th, 2011, at 10 am at the Community Room of the Naples Daily News Building at 1100 Immokalee Rd.
A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Dr. Baker has had a distinguished international career and has focused on conflict resolution, failed states and the prevention of genocide. As President Emeritus of The Fund for Peace, she guided that organization to work to prevent war and made “FfP” a leader in the peace and security field with activities in every major region of the world. Dr. Baker also taught graduate courses at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Public Leadership, Ethnic Conflict and International Diplomacy.
Dr. Baker spent 11 years in Nigeria and returned to the US becoming a Professional Staff Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Staff Director for the African Affairs Sub-Committee. As a Senior Associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, she focused on U.S. policy toward Africa and particularly on South Africa’s transition from apartheid to majority rule. She is a prolific author, and a witness to the conflicts that persuade us to ask the question, “when is it our responsibility to protect”?
