Martha L. Williams has served as a longtime digital media industry researcher, speaker, and consultant. She joined the NCWA Board of Directors in 2023.

Martha was a research associate at the University of Oxford’s Reuters Institute from 2012 and 2014, focusing her research on digital media trends and data and artificial intelligence for media. As head of her company, World Newsmedia Network, she founded and organized the Data and AI for Media conference 10 times from 2013 to 2019 – in London, New York, San Francisco, Beijing and Hong Kong in collaboration with partners Open Society Foundation, Microsoft, Google and Thomson Reuters.

During COVID, she organized dozens of webinars about data- and artificial intelligence-driven strategies and tactics. She has published dozens of major reports about these topics during her career.

She was a founding board member of Global Editors Network in Paris, and a former research director of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers in Frankfurt and Paris. 

At NCWA, she has been active in Great Decisions and the Model UN program.
