The Committee for
Special Activities

Naples Council is pleased to present our own council member and author, Abdullah Sharif, at a program to discuss

Book 2 of
Afghanistan’s Golden Age.

The program will take place:

Wednesday,
December 2nd at 10 am

St. John the Evangelist’s Church
625 111th St, No.
North Naples
Seminar Room, Claussen Center.

A follow-up to the book Sardar: Return to Kabul delves into the sociopolitical issues that have affected the country over the years, the distinct problems faced by those working to restore the land to harmony and opulence, and reflections on family heritage and cultures from an Afghan-American perspective. After two civilian deployments in a country that was nearly unrecognizable from the last time he had been there, Sharif shares his personal memories and insights about Afghanistan's past, present and future.

Abdullah Sharif, an aviation engineer for over three decades, spent the past five years helping to rebuild his homeland of Afghanistan.  He served as a peace diplomat on behalf of the United States State Department and Department of Defense, receiving numerous awards for his service. He was given the US Dept. of State Superior Honor Award for “extraordinary contribution in the US effort to bring peace and prosperity to the people of Afghanistan.”  He also earned the department’s Expeditionary Service Award “in grateful recognition of committed service in reconstruction, stability and peace in Afghanistan.”  The US Dept. of Defense’s Joint Meritorious Civilian Service Award was also bestowed upon him.  He was given the NATO Non-Article 5 Medal for service to the International Security and Assistance Force.

Sharif earned a Masters of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of New Haven. Sharif speaks English, French, Dari, Farsi and Pashtu.
