Is France Still A Leader?

The Naples Council on World Affairs is pleased to present Philippe LeCorre, Foreign Policy  Fellow at Brookings, on Monday, January 11th, 2016, at St. John the Evangelist’s Kiney Hall, 625 111th Avenue No. in North Naples at 3:45 and 7:30 pm.

From migration to terrorism, France has endured a year which began with the Charlie Hebdo attacks last January, the continuum of an economic slowdown, the impact of criminal issues at the Euro-Chunnel refugee camp at Calais, the challenges of the Eurozone crisis, co-led with Germany, and the horrors of the November terrorist attacks. Can she still hold her position as a European Leader?

President Hollande has surprised many with his firm role as a military leader, but his political rivals are super critical and the far-right challenges of Marine LePen suggest a country with closed borders and an end to the European Union. M. LeCorre will address those issues as he reminds us that France is certainly a credible partner of the United States when it comes to security, counter-terrorism and diplomacy.

An Adjunct Faculty Member at Johns Hopkins University and Sciences Po in Paris, Philippe LeCorre focuses on France, Great Britain and Transatlantic Relations at the Center of the United States and Europe at the Brookings Institution.
